SightSave Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving access to quality eye care for underserved communities in the Eastern Free State. Working together with local optometrists and ophthalmologists, SightSave provides support for essential eye examinations, corrective lenses, specialised contact lenses and sight-saving surgical treatments. Our goal is simple: to help people see better, live independently and reach their full potential, regardless of their financial circumstances.
Our Story
SightSave Foundation began when local optometrists recognised the growing need for accessible eye care in underserved communities across the Eastern Free State. They regularly encountered complex visual conditions requiring specialised contact lenses and surgical treatment, care that was often too expensive for many patients and not available through the state sector in a timely manner.
Together with local ophthalmologists, Bethlehem optometrists joined forces to provide the community with the eye care and support it deserves. SightSave Foundation aims to help individuals receive the specialised treatment they need, from sight-saving crosslinking treatment for children with Keratoconus to cataract surgery for adults whose ability to work and support their families is at risk.

Our Vision
SightSave Foundation aims to make a lasting impact in the Eastern Free State by helping restore vision to as many underserved individuals as possible. We strive to make essential eye care and specialised treatment more accessible to those who need it most.
By addressing visual needs early and providing access to appropriate treatment, we hope to prevent avoidable vision loss and help individuals live more independent and productive lives.

Eye Examinations
Eye examinations and early detection of visual conditions help identify problems before they become more serious.
Corrective Lenses
We aim to provide affordable corrective lenses to individuals living with uncorrected refractive errors, helping improve their everyday vision.
Specialised Contact Lenses
For complex visual conditions where standard spectacles are not sufficient, specialised contact lenses can provide an important alternative.
Surgical Treatment
Where surgery is required, SightSave Foundation aims to help patients access necessary specialist treatment that may otherwise be beyond their financial means.
Keratoconus Treatment
Patients with conditions such as Keratoconus may require specialised treatment, including sight-saving corneal crosslinking.
Community Outreach & Education
Through awareness and education, we aim to help communities understand the importance of regular eye examinations, early detection and preventative eye care.
